Five Oscar Looks that Demand Applause

Last night’s Academy Awards were a huge success in my book. Instead of my usual live tweeting during the red carpet event, I stayed with my BFF and her 3 month old daughter. We oooh’ed and ahhh’ed. Loved it! Here are my favorite head-to-toe looks from the red carpet and beyond!

Oscars 2010 - RED CARPET

My girl Sarah Jessica Parker was a stunner. The first 3 seconds of looking at her, I thought, “what?” But that’s the magic of SJP. As the fourth second approached, I thought “Oooh, I get it! Yes SJP!” Her sense of style is on a different level. Always chic, always testing the waters. The mega-bun rocked my socks. However the “I love walking down the street on windy days” look was not so hot.

82nd Annual Academy Awards Red Carpet Arrivals

Who else can’t stop talking about Zoe Saldana? She’s already hot to begin with, but the hair, makeup, dress, shoes. Wow. There are a few brief moments where I only love her dress from the belly button, up. And then I see the rest of the dress and think that it can be cool too. But the shoes. Wow. Might have to snatch those up!

The Dress Event: Alice & Olivia and Scott Barnes

In celebration of the Scandalous Beauty 4 Year Anniversary, here’s another fabulous dress that needs to be in my closet.  The Puff Sleeve Dress ($242) is a little edgier than I ruffaliceolivwould normally go, but it’s fierce nonetheless. Alice & Olivia is one of my favorite brands ever.  Yes, they are a luxury brand, but they have a lookbook like you wouldn’t even imagine.  The creator, Stacey Bendet, had Scandalous Beauty on the mind sketching out her line! I always made it to the store on West 40th st. in Manhattan after work.( I was sucked in on my way to jump on the 1 train back uptown. Oh New York, how I miss you.)

A dress this fly must be accompanied by fantastic makeup. I’ve been thinking hard about the makeup look to feature with this. First I thought, a vibrant purple eye would do the trick.  Then, maybe an emerald green eye and a coral cheek.  But you know what?  With the huge ruffle sleeves, I’m going to have to go with the Scott Barnes Makeup Tutorial.  I created this look a few weeks ago, but I think it’s the perfect makeup for a hot outfit like this one!  I used a gold eye shadow duo by L’oreal HIP called Saucy. The key to this look was the melted eyeliner for smokey rims and the delicate use of dark shadow in the crease. So, the makeup grabs your attention and demands respect. By the way, if you’re looking for more makeup tips and tricks from Mr. Scott Barnes, check out his new book, About Face: Amazing Transformations Using the Secrets of the Top Celebrity Makeup Artist! I read through it at the book shop yesterday, and it was JAM packed with makeup pictures, how-to’s, and text to back it up. I’m so impressed! I loved the extreme highlighting and contouring used to achieve flawless results. Seriously, I can’t wait to try the techniques!! To see the look that inspired my interpretation, check out Scott Barnes on Youtube. Alice & Olivia can also be found on Shopbop, Cusp and Bluefly!

Little Black Dress Event: Tracy Reese and Bobbi Brown

TracyReeseLBD
As I am writing this post, I’m in awe that Scandalous Beauty will be four years old on December 22nd!  Since you know dresses are a staple in my closet, I’m going to share some of the most beautiful dresses that I could find! Not only will you see hot outfits, but you’ll also get to see the makeup that would look phenomenal with it.  To kick off the countdown to Scandalous Beauty’s 4 year anniversary, we’ll start with a lovely Black Draped Dress from Tracy Reese ($295). I adore this dress because it works easily as a dress for work, Church, or a lovely afternoon.  I’m picturing myself in this dress while giving a mouthwatering dinner party at my Soho loft.  Well, one day.  With this elegant little number, I’d have to opt for beauty by Bobbi Brown. I’ve been eyeing the Chrome Palette for weeks now. It includes 10 shadows, 4 lip colors and 2 brushes.
ChromeToolBoxPalette

I didn’t appreciate Bobbi a few years ago. The colors were just too muted. But now I realize that we don’t always needs packed on, concentrated color! At $75, this palette is a little but of a splurge.  But with the versatility of the shimmery and matte colors, how could we resist?  Don’t forget to look at “The Secret to Perfect Skin” on Bobbi’s website.  It’s completely insightful and definitely a must read!

Alien Liqueur de Parfum by Thierry Mugler

ALIEN Liqueur de Parfum The name “Alien” made me a bit biased about the fragrance.  For some reason, I thought it would be a green glass bottle with a citrus scent.  Clearly, I was wrong.   This scent is out of this world.  Hands down, one of my new go to perfumes.  I put it on my wrists, then walked around the house.  Every member of my family shot me an instant “yes” when I asked what they thought!  If you’re looking for a frilly, soft, girly scent, this isn’t what you want.  If you want a mysterious, sensual, dark scent that is sure to get you compliments, here’s your winner!

This isn’t the everyday Alien that you are usually addicted to, however.  The original Alien is placed in a patent pending oak cast and distilled for 8 weeks!  The result, a richer, even more sensual, even more mysterious fragrance that’ll keep you coming back.  Be advised, this is a limited edition masterpiece.  Don’t be caught without it!

So, the fashionista in me instantly thought of the perfect outfit to wear with this fragrance.  Most definitely a little black dress, preferably a little strapless above the knee number (like this bad boy by Alice + Olivia) and five inch heels.

Alien de Liquer by Thierry Mugler ($95) at Sephora and Neiman Marcus.

Kenneth Cole Style

sbstyle

I own 8 or 9 Kenneth Cole dresses. There’s a 90% chance that if you see me out and about, I’ll be wearing a KC coat and handbag, probably shoes too. There’s something about his brand that I just can’t get enough of. (It could be because I used to work there.) But, the fabric, the look, it’s all great. The first place I look for an outfit when I have an event is Kenneth Cole. Plus, his Awearness campaign does so much for the community, tackling issues in politics, AIDS awareness and things of the like. I’m a huge fan and an avid supporter. Here are my top pics from the website this week.

Ribbed Shoulder Wrap Dress
, $199

I love the way this dress fits! Everything fits nice and snug, while the dress still covers everything. Plus, it appears to be much more expensive than it really is! It would have been hanging in my closet right this second had I not hesitated on purchasing it. I went to another store to try something else, came back, and someone bought it! Grrrr…

Pontier Bustier Dress
, $129

I love showing off a bare neck and shoulders. This is the perfect cocktail dress for every occasion

Kenneth Cole New York Pocket Scarf, $58

This is SO me. Rock this with a cute bomber jacket, jeans and booties. Yes!

Kenneth Cole Silver Technology Silver Spoon
, $195

I really, really wish I could get a great deal on these. This 925 technology is astonishing. I tried on the 4″ pump and thought I was wearing a pair of Jordan’s. The heel literally didn’t feel high and I walked comfortably. I assumed they would feel similar to my Cole Haan’s with the Nike cushion. Nope, I’d have to say KC’s are not only much more stylish, but much more comfortable. I generally splurge on an item like this once a year and wear them out with friends, to Church, and everything in between. It’s an investment that I would definitely love to make!

Find out which top hand hydrators our testers found desk drawer-worthy

We spend hundreds on youth-enhancing face lotions — but when’s the last time your hands got some love? “Hands show aging more than the face,” says Los Angeles-based dermatologist Dr. Howard Murad. Good point. So we had 10 testers review hand creams for two weeks. Which ones offered the best hydration — and which were just greasy? Find out in the ratings.

Only a few things in the fashion world get me excited. Sure, I can go into a store and find some cute stuff, but it’s not always essential to my existence. The items that make me loco for threads are dresses, scarves, hats and hoops. All of the images are from style.com. The title image scarf is by Yarnz, found here!

Our favorite Project Runway Divo is doing so many projects, it’s hard to keep up! I’m sure you’ve heard all about his fabulous collection for Spring 2010 Fashion Week. It’s causing such the stir! But wow…have you seen the hot shoes and handbags that he has produced at a reasonable rate? The Project Runway alum has a line with Payless, and you know what? It’s hot! I must find a way to try on the shoes and just might have to have the handbag too!

Dope Threads: BCBG Ruffle Front Contrast Dress

Dope Threads: BCBG Ruffle Front Contrast Dress

BCBGRuffleDress

BCBG is one of my favorite brands of clothing.  I always check their site (and stores) to see what’s new!  And while I love, love, love their clothes, I can’t afford them.  So, I admire from a distance.  I’m a dress fanatic.  If I could wear dresses everyday, I would!  And believe you me, that time will come!  I saw the BCBG Ruffle Front Contrast Dress on the website today, and I gasped.  This dress is SO me.  I’d wear this out to a lounge or a date with the boyfriend. So sleek, so classy. I love it!
