If you read or watch my blog or videos, you’ll know that my all time favorite foundation brush is the MAC 109 brush. It’s got a small, dense head and makes the face insanely gorg. I’ve recommended it for years, and people have always been happy with my recommendation. There seems to be only one negative comment: the brush sheds the same way my hair did when I had a relaxer. I can’t figure out for the life of me WHY it wants to leave teeny tiny hairs all over your face! The best remedy that I’ve found was to shampoo and condition the brush with the same quality hair products that I use on my locks. This helps, momentarily.
People often ask if they can use the 188 or 187 Skunk brushes for foundation. Yes you can. In fact, you can use any powder, blush, kabuki or flat brush, as well as sponges or your fingers to do your foundation. There is no right or wrong way. Trust me, I’ve used almost every technique in the book! As I looked over the information about the new Mineralize Foundation that MAC was coming out with, I found this information on the recommended brush: the 130.
I’m sold. It’s got the dense black bottom portion of the hair to hold the product, and the sparse white top portion to evenly dispense product. It’s the lovechild of the 187 and 109 brush, and I have a feeling that I will be head over heels for it! MAC Brushes are indeed expensive, but they are an investment. I haven’t bought a new brush from them in at least 6 months. This will be well deserved! Wish me luck (and hopefully no shedding!)

Thanks for the tip, Erin – I *must* have this brush as well!!!
I am totally going to get this brush! I am SUPER excited!!!! When I saw it, I was thinking about the 109 and basically what you said.
the 18th can’t get here fast enough! what ever MAC location is the closest, is the one I will be getting this from… as soon as they open too!
Another thing about this brush is that I am hoping it becomes a one brush fits all for me. Right now I use the 109 for studio fix liquid (summer choice) and I like the 187 for studio sculpt (winter choice). for some reason i have found those formulas work best with those brushes, for me. Interested in the 130 as it looks like a combo of both, so it may be an all around thing. I hope so!!!!

I am sold to, I just called the PRO store today to see if they had them out, but they didn’t, LOL, a friend of mine that is a MUA for MAC told me about this since November or December, and she said the foundation and brush are amazing, I don’t like the 109 brush to much because it sheds a lot for me.
I got this brush the other day when I did my Spring Forecast haul. I didn’t have the mineralize foundation when I tried it, but I used it with my MUFE Mat Velvet foundation. And I LOVED the results. Flawless, with out the hairs left on my face. Today I went back to Mac and picked up the Mineralize foundation in NC44. I’m gonna try it today and see how I like it. And in the winter I’m an oily/combo girl that can lean towards the dry side too.
I like the Sephora Brand Professionnel Mineral Powder Brush #45. It also has a dense head yet is a little bigger and totally soft. I haven’t had any shedding problems with it and it even distributes my Studio Tech evenly. I really like it and it is a lot sheaper than the 109. I also use it for blush. Its an all around great brush and I think its a good alternative for us broke folk
I JUST came back from MAC…I got the 130. Love it!!!
