My Favorite Eyebrow Tutorial (Video!)

I love a natural looking polished brow. I’ve talked about this video by Nikkia of Silver Lips Beauty before, but figured I should share it here on my blog. I’ve seen Nikkia out and about several times, and her makeup is always lovely. It’s not over the top, it doesn’t look too “forced”, she just wears it really well. When I’m looking at her videos or pictures on her site, I always drift to her brows. They are just really, really good. You can tell that she spends time on them, but doesn’t look to make them dramatic. Hey, I love a drag-esque, uber-highlighted, filled to the core brow like the next person–but only in certain situations, i.e. working behind a counter, out in a dark club, Tumblr/Instagram/Youtube etc. If you’re looking for a tutorial that shows the perfect “I’m not trying to hard to make my brows look overly perfect but they look haute” brow, check out this video (and the rest of her vids on youtube)!

By the way, Nikkia was part of my roundup of Brown beauty bloggers with fierce makeup! Be sure to check out the list and follow these ladies’ blogs!

$3 Dupe for MAC Coppering Eye Shadow + Swatches

MAC Coppeing Eye Shadow Dupe

I use Coppering in quite a few looks that I do( like this one and this one). I love its bold, rusty color. Brown skin looks great with anything orange, so it’s a great color to have. It works great with neutrals, pinks, purples…that’s why it’s one of my favorites!

$3 Dupe for MAC Chestnut Lip Liner

MAC Chestnut Lip Liner Dupe

I happen to  have 4 MAC Chestnut lip liners in my collection. I’m a hoarder that way. Many of them are years old, replacements of lost pencils (that I later found) etc. And then, low and behold, I stumbled upon NYX lipliners. I’m almost positive I bought my first one at the beauty supply store when I was stocking up on false lashes. I’m not crazy about everything that NYX makes, but these are spot on.

Makeup Artist Showcase: Alexandra Butler

Here’s a really dense look into the life of Alexandra Butler! I wish I had enough room to post all of the pictures she sent over!

Alexandra Butler | Scandalous Beauty
1. How Did you Get Started Doing Makeup?

I’ve always been a very artistic person throughout life and originally thought fashion design was my next step, but then I realized I couldn’t sew… So I started to realize whenever I was watching those fashion makeover shows, I was intrigued by the makeup part of it. I then started practicing and collecting makeup. I even made my own YouTube channel geared towards makeup tutorials because I saw others doing it and KNEW I could do it too, and possibly better ;) .

2. Did you go to makeup school? Was this a benefit to you? If so, how?

No I didn’t go to makeup school. I actually went to school for Industrial Engineering #gofigure. I worked in the field of engineering for 3 years and quickly realized that it was not the career for me. I actually got fired TWICE because I was underperforming, lol. I took that as a sign that God was pushing me out to do what I was passionate about. So I did.

As far as others going to makeup school, I think it could be beneficial, just depending on what you are learning. I must say, the “School of Hard Knocks” taught me a lot. I was thrown into a lot of situations without proper training or experience, but how I learned to tackle those road blocks made me who I am today. So you definitely don’t have to go to school for this. Just practice and get you a good mentor who can help guide you. Oh and do lots of FREE makeovers in the beginning. When you do FREE stuff, people can’t expect much out of you so if you mess up, they can’t get that mad, lol. But you learn from your mistakes and I highly doubt you will make the same mistake twice.
