An Ode to The Ghetto Girls Who Love MAC!

Yeah, I was definitely wrong for doing this. Over the years, imagine how many times you’ve been at or near a MAC counter or store, and heard something a little hoodrat-ish.  You may find white eye liner on the lid and black lip liner around the mouth.  You may hear a praise for the products and a rant about the people that work there. You may not even know what brand they are referring to, because they may call it “MACS” or “MAX” instead of MAC. These people are probably not intentionally acting this way, they are just being themselves. You know what? To each their own.

So, one night I compiled as many of the outlandish comments from the 9 years that I’ve used MAC, and the 3 years that I’ve freelanced for them.I very carefully chose makeup that would be deemed appropriate for the character. Please notice the jacked up eyebrows (filled in with Smoulder Eye Kohl), the extra shiny nose (using 3 clear lipglosses and a spray of Fix+), the brow highlight (Make Up For Ever Star Dust #941) and no blush, because half of the brown women in the world think that blush is not created for us.

While the story is ficticious, it’s based on many very true events.  Enjoy!

Becca Cosmetics Lip Tint Swatches

I bought these Becca Cosmetics Lip Tints a few weeks ago at the Hautelook sale.  They are $23 regular priced, but I got them for $11 on sale. Since the sale is only for 2 days, and you only know about it a week in advance, signing up is vital! What I love about products like this is that they are sheer enough to build on an existing color. Wearing them over lipstick gives the look a whole other type of dimension! There are over 20 permanent shades on Beccacosmetics.com.

During the sale, I also purchased the compact concealer in Hazelnut and creme blush.  I’ve got in depth reviews of them coming later in the week!

Quiz: Should You Relax Your Hair?

I’m part of the Total Beauty Beauty Bubbles Program, where they send us cute affiliate links to post on our blogs.  To my surprise, I found the quiz called “Should You Relax Your Hair”?  You all know I’ve been natural for over 3 years, and had my locs for a year. Out of sheer curiosity, I took this quiz.  What kind of questions could they possibly ask to determine your mane’s fate?  No, they didn’t ask about breakage or hair length, color, or health.  They asked about lipstick and how often you change your style. From my results, I am the perfect candidate for relaxed hair!  Part of my result descriptions says “Your hair is basically begging for the versatility, sleekness, shine and though it sounds cheesy, the overall allure of relaxed hair.” While yes, I could do all of that with my relaxed hair, I can do the same with a kinky ‘fro. Insert confused face here.

When is He Officially YOUR Boyfriend?

After my 7 years of being a Sex and the City fanatic (7 days left for the premier…*super squeal*), I am always amazed at how the the ladies throw around the boyfriend title. Carrie starts the scene like this:

Miranda and her new boyfriend, wall street broker Mike Mallow, just finished their 3rd date.  They loved the Yankees, Brownies and 19th century Biographies. He’s the best boyfriend she’d had in months.

After 3 dates, I’m estimating that you’ve spent approximately 10-12 hours together. I understand that many of us are women, highly emotional creatures that sometimes act quickly. Personally, I have 10% Charlotte syndrome. After the first successful date, I always put the new man’s last name on the end of mine, just to see how it sounds. Can’t help it, it’s just one of the things I do! (Don’t judge me.) Is the man that you are seriously dating the (almost) automatic equivalent to your boyfriend?
